Getting There

Fly into Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) in Kathmandu. Most routes connect through Delhi, Doha, Dubai, Istanbul, or Singapore.

Getting Around

We recommend taking Uber, Pathao, or a taxi to get around Kathmandu.

Taxi tips: If you're headed straight to the hotel, stop by the fixed-rate taxi counter at the airport to avoid haggling. If you find a taxi on your own, agree on the price before starting the ride.

Kathmandu Valley Culture Days

Historic architecture in Kathmandu Durbar Square

Day 1 — Kathmandu Durbar Square (old royal palace complex) and Swayambhunath ("Monkey Temple") with its hilltop valley views.

Day 2 — Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest in the world; Pashupatinath Temple, Nepal's most sacred Hindu site (note: cremation ghats are visible here); and Patan Durbar Square, considered by many the most beautiful of the three.

All sites are within the Kathmandu Valley — no domestic flights or long drives needed. Ask the Nepali folks what they'd recommend!

Pokhara Lake Escape

Phewa Lake and the mountains surrounding Pokhara

Flight or scenic drive from Kathmandu (the drive includes a stop in Bandipur, a car-free hilltop heritage town).

Phewa Lake boating, Sarangkot sunrise viewpoint over the Annapurna range (early wake-up, worth it), and the World Peace Pagoda.

Domestic flights can sell out early, so booking ahead is recommended. Stick with Buddha Air for its stellar safety record.

Chitwan Jungle Safari

One-horned rhinoceros in Chitwan National Park

Jungle safari with rhino, deer, and (if you're lucky) tiger sightings.

Canoe ride on the Rapti River and a Tharu cultural show in the evening.

A number of ethically run jungle lodges to choose from.

Poon Hill Adventure Trek

Great intro hike if you're short on time. Trek from Nayapul (short drive from Pokhara) through rhododendron forest to Ghorepani.

February mornings are below freezing, so pack warm layers.
